With climate issues impacting communities and policy agendas worldwide, the Solutions Journalism Network is expanding support for climate solutions journalism in India, Brazil and sub-Saharan Africa by teaming up with institutional partners and accredited local trainers. Our focus is on building strong networks of journalists and supporting solutions journalism practice as well as impact tracking and audience engagement in newsrooms.

Climate Solutions Journalism Accelerator in India

India

SJN is partnering with the Science Journalists Association of India (SJAI) to strengthen climate solutions reporting. The programs include fellowships, building a local peer network of journalists and developing a reporters’ guide to AI-driven climate interventions through a collaborative process, with input from journalism, academia, and policy and civic organizations. We're also growing the number of accredited solutions journalism trainers across the country and tapping trainers to provide coaching to Earth Journalism Network members.

Brazil

Associação de Jornalismo Digital (AJOR) and SJN are expanding support for climate solutions journalism through a media leaders program that will connect champions of solutions journalism across the country. We're also developing a local peer network for journalists, growing the number of accredited solutions journalism trainers in the country and supporting those trainers with funding and an in-person gathering.

Sub-Saharan Africa

We're launching the Africa Climate Beacon Newsrooms Initiative with the Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA), a center for science journalism operating across Africa. The program will support two cohorts of newsrooms in integrating solutions journalism into their climate coverage. MESHA will also host "cross-border cafes" across sub-Saharan Africa, bringing together journalists and climate experts to discuss climate impacts and adaptive responses. In addition, we are supporting the expansion of the global Climate Peer Network across time zones, growing the number of accredited solutions journalism trainers and providing those trainers with funding.
