Constructive News vs. The Doom Loop

The Apes Reporting Project (ARP), an initiative of Water Journalists Africa that “unites 200+ wildlife journalists across 21 African countries to protect endangered apes and their habitats through conservation journalism, local voices and partnerships,” is now a member of SJN and MESHA’s Africa Climate Beacon Newsroom Initiative. Recently, the collaborative tackled a huge question: Is it just more interesting to read bad news? In answering it, ARP explains why it sought to join the Beacon cohort and why “news that brings more learning, more depth, more data, more action” is essential for changing the environmental landscape. It’s a spectacular mix of speaking to journalists and everyday people alike.
