Switch Africa Is a Youth-first Newsroom Focused on Solutions
Solutions Now Africa and Switch Africa are pioneering digital journalism platforms under the Media Challenge Initiative (MCI) Newsroom—Africa’s first fellowship-apprenticeship-driven newsroom dedicated to nurturing the next generation of journalists. Through this model, young storytellers are empowered to launch their careers while practicing solutions journalism and youth-centered reporting.
Solutions Now Africa was established as a bold editorial experiment—a newsroom fully committed to solutions journalism. It produces immersive, in-depth stories that spotlight models, ideas, and systems working across the continent. At its core, the platform seeks to challenge the dominant negative narratives about Africa by making stories of progress, resilience, and innovation more visible and more influential. Since its inception, the newsroom has published over 140 long form articles and 90 video stories on YouTube, reaching diverse audiences across Africa and beyond.
Building on this foundation, Solutions Now Africa gave birth to Switch Africa—a dynamic, youth-first social newsroom. Switch Africa curates and amplifies youth experiences through engaging, relatable, and solutions-oriented storytelling. It operates through niche, socially driven content channels that speak directly to young audiences’ realities and aspirations.
Each channel applies a solutions journalism lens, ensuring that stories not only inform but also inspire action, reflection, and possibility. Today, Switch Africa has grown into a vibrant digital community with over 140,000 followers across social media platforms.
