Meeting the Moment: SJN's 2024 Annual Report

A lot of us — across journalism and many other fields — are wondering how we “meet the moment.” Amid titanic changes, where do journalism, science, educators and nonprofits fit in? How do we address the genuine concerns that have cratered confidence in our work while also building a more informed, more compassionate future? And ... what does “meeting the moment” really mean?

There is no one answer. Many people feel called in directions they hadn't predicted, perhaps even in ways they don't fully understand yet. Whatever it means for you, it has become increasingly clear we must do it together.

In our 2024 Annual Report, which we’re proud to release today, you’ll find our take on these questions. Across climate, democracy and youth mental health, we’re uniting journalists dedicated to covering people not only in their most difficult moments but in their triumphant ones as well. With global trainings, university hubs and journalism fellowships, we’re working to ensure everyone has the tools and knowledge they need to transform journalism into a process that is respectful, helpful and fair.

You’ll find large numbers, but you’ll also find personal stories. You’ll find SJN-ers you might know, but you’ll also see the global growth of solutions journalism itself.
