The HBCU Educator/Black Press Academy Fellowship brings together educators from historically Black universities and newsroom leaders from the Black press to spend a year learning how to incorporate solutions journalism into their curricula and media operations. Journalists and educators are paired throughout the year to host community engagement events, collaborate on reporting projects and provide student journalists the chance to put into practice what they’re learning in the classroom.

2023 HBCU / Black Press fellows

The Solutions Journalism Network launched the first cohort of HBCU/Black Press Academy Fellows with 14 participants. Each fellow receives financial support and training to report on solutions stories and hold community engagement events throughout the 2023–24 academic year.
