tbd/con Virtual Conference

tbd/con is a virtual conference bringing together journalists, researchers, technologists, security practitioners and policymakers to grapple with unanswered questions surrounding AI.

SJN's Jaisal Noor will be hosting a session on Sept. 23 called "When AI Comes to Town: How Should Journalists Cover Communities Pushing Back?" As AI infrastructure expands, communities are pushing back over data centers, energy and water use, environmental impacts, and who gets a say in what gets built where. This session will explore how a solutions journalism lens can help reporters investigate what communities are trying, what evidence exists, where those efforts fall short, and what can be learned across communities. We'll also wrestle with where that framework has limitations, and invite participants to help identify better questions and approaches for covering this emerging story.
