Journalism Is a Profession of Connection (Journalisme, Un Métier du Lien)
Journalism has focused too much on the ruptures in society and missed the opportunity to investigate, or even help build, some of the bridges, says SJN-er Nina Fasciaux. Journalists' superpower is not only getting information but also listening, compassion and understanding — all of which they also help grow in others.
Check out Nina's TEDxParis talk, "Journalisme, un métier du lien" ("Journalism, a profession of connection"). Her talk and her book "Mal entendus" center on how journalism must listen deeply and compassionately to help overcome the immense political and social divides of this era.
She also delivered the keynote speech at the 2025 b future festival hosted by the Bonn Institute. Titled “Journalism Is a Profession of Care and Connection,” the speech immediately had people talking about it on social media. Now, it is available in podcast form, courtesy of the Bonn Institute.
