Maryna Smahina

Maryna Smahina is a Ukrainian author, media editor, and trainer, as well as a contributing senior editor at the Ukrainian Solutions Journalism-focused media outlet, Rubryka.

With five years of editorial experience, Maryna has created and curated content aligned with the Solutions Journalism approach and led strategic and grant projects using this framework. As a media trainer, she has mentored reporters and conducted training sessions on Solutions Journalism in Ukraine and internationally, including workshops for journalists in Uzbekistan in 2024, hosted by USAGM.

Beyond her media career, Maryna has authored and traditionally published five fiction books for children and adults in Ukrainian and translated ten works from English to Ukrainian. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at the University of Helsinki.
