Solutions Journalism With An Impact

Utah’s Great Salt Lake Collaborative brought together an assortment of local newsrooms and civic institutions to explore how the condition of the lake had deteriorated and what might be done to save it. This collaborative started as part of SJN’s Local News Project, a wide-scale effort to seed solutions-focused collaborations. Recently, Anna McEntire of the Janet Quinney Lawson Institute for Land, Water, and Air at Utah State University wrote for The Salt Lake Tribune about the incredible movement the project has inspired. Member newsrooms transformed their coverage, built unique ways for people to get involved and inspired a new project focused on the Colorado River. The focus on solutions helped ensure the project “created tools and messages that help people from different sectors understand and act on shared values.”
