Solutions Journalism Network is excited to announce a call for applications for the 2024-25 Student Media Challenge, a grant-sponsored initiative that convenes eight journalism schools and student publications to form a year-long cohort practicing solutions journalism.

Launched in 2022, the Challenge adds to SJN’s ongoing work with colleges and universities, as the number and kind of solutions journalism courses expand at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Challenge has evolved into an incubator of solutions journalism, resulting in stories for digital and print news services, radio, television and podcasts.

The next SMC cohort will build on the work of the 2023-24 partners in reporting on student mental health. Each of the eight finalists will receive a $7,500 grant to pursue reporting on that topic, along with extensive training and support.
