Our team of investigative journalists dives deep to tell stories about the natural world in Canada you can’t find anywhere else.
We have just two rules: 1) Follow the facts. 2) Tell it like it is.
HOW TO PITCH:
Before pitching, please subscribe to our newsletter and follow our work closely for at least a month to get a sense of style, tone and content.
We welcome pitches for stories up to 2,000 words, as well as video and photo proposals. The Narwhal’s reporting is primarily focused on the extractive industries — mining, forestry, fishing and oil and gas extraction — and large-scale conservation in Canada. Please include one paragraph about who you are and at least two pieces of previously published work with your pitch.
Our rate is generally C$1 per word for professional journalists working on features, and may vary depending on experience and assignments. The Narwhal pays per assigned word but may from time-to-time negotiate a project price during the assignment phase.
