I am a longtime public radio journalist who has reported for NPR, Marketplace and other outlets from the US and abroad. I’ve also taught audio journalism to youth, adult professionals and at the college level, and am an accredited trainer of both Solutions Journalism and Complicating the Narratives method (CTN).

Solutions Journalism Network’s strategies have been central to my work since becoming a 2023-24 Complicating the Narratives Fellow, and SoJo and CTN are woven into the News Ambassadors collaborative journalism project, which I direct. News Ambassadors enlists college journalism students to help local newsrooms fill gaps in coverage of underreported communities with rigorously-reported stories that uplift solutions and common ground. We train students on democracy-supporting civic journalism strategies and then help amplify strong student stories beyond campus.

I specialize in training J-school students, news-academic partnerships and newsrooms
on Solutions Journalism, depolarization reporting strategies (especially CTN) and how to weave community engagement into their reporting. While my background is in audio, the strategies are applicable across all platforms.
