Economic Hardship Reporting Project

Based in:

Brooklyn, New York, United States

English

The Economic Hardship Reporting Project supports independent journalists as they forward fresh narratives about inequality. EHRP’s high-quality journalism is then co-published with mainstream media outlets, to help readers understand and address systemic hardship.

HOW TO PITCH:

We're looking for fresh narrative journalism that examines the causes, effects and solutions to experiences of economic inequality. We support independent journalists producing features, personal essays, op-eds documentaries, photo essays, poetry, audio projects and solutions journalism stories. Our work is co-published with mainstream media outlets, helping readers understand and address systemic hardship. Please read our Submission Guidelines (https://economichardship.org/submission-guidelines/) for advice on how to land a grant with EHRP.

Rate: Pay typically ranges from $700-2,500 per story, depending on the size of the co-publishing outlet, difficulty of reporting involved, the quality of the writing, the journalist’s experience and prior relationship with EHRP. Pay rates vary for different types of stories and are detailed in our Pitch Portal.

Contact: Send pitches through EHRP’s Pitch Portal. Be sure to carefully follow instructions and provide all required information. Due to our small staff’s capacity, only pitches sent through the Pitch Portal (https://economichardship.org/pitch-portal/) will be considered at this time.
