Counterstream Media centers the stories and perspectives the mainstream media often miss.

We are a nonprofit media organization that uses journalism and storytelling to challenge harmful narratives and work towards climate & environmental justice. Through our podcasts, publications, and live storytelling events, we cover frontline voices and influence how culture and policy take shape.

HOW TO PITCH:

Counterstream’s stories center the voices and experiences of people too often excluded from conversations about climate and environmental justice. Our coverage amplifies stories from Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, low-income communities, and other historically marginalized groups. Our stories value the lived experiences of these communities and explore where climate, environmental, racial, and social justice intersect.

We are currently accepting story pitches for our Peace & Riot magazine and guest suggestions for our award-winning podcast, A People’s Climate.

How to Pitch to Peace & Riot:

Our climate and environmental justice magazine spotlights climate leadership where it actually lives — in communities, on the frontlines, and in the culture. To pitch a story idea, email hello@counterstream.org with the subject line: “P&R Story Pitch.” Counterstream pays contributors for accepted pitches to our Peace & Riot magazine. Pay rates vary from issue to issue and are negotiated upon your story being accepted by our editorial team. If your pitch is accepted, we will reach out to you directly with next steps.
