Introducing the 2025 Advancing Democracy Innovation Fund Recipients

SJN’s democracy fellowships have helped more than 80 newsrooms rethink and ideally transform their coverage of political and civic life. Over the past couple years, we’ve done this alongside partners at Hearken, Trusting News and, at times, Good Conflict, emphasizing the skills each organization specializes in alongside solutions journalism as a “balanced diet” of healthy journalism.

Now, we’re excited to share the 11 new grantees of the 2025 Advancing Democracy Innovation Fund. These newsrooms will receive coaching and financial support to help them strengthen civic life and participation — and help address community needs. The Haitian Times, The Seattle Times and Dallas Free Press are just a few of the outlets that will make up this forward-looking cohort.
