APPLY NOW: Solutions Journalism Philanthropy Revenue Accelerator
The Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) and Blue Engine Collaborative are accepting applications for the fourth round of the Solutions Journalism Revenue Accelerator. This phase, backed by the Knight Foundation, focuses on a revenue stream many news organizations want to strengthen but seldom get the time or support to do so: philanthropy, including major individual gifts and institutional grants.
Teams receive:
- Nine months of coaching and training
- Travel and lodging for a two-day kickoff in San Francisco (March 5-6)
- Opportunities for certification as solutions journalism trainers
- A chance to receive $10,000 in support
This is one of four Accelerators that SJN and Blue Engine will lead over 2025 and 2026, each of which will include 8-12 news organizations and focus on a specific revenue stream.
In our first Accelerators, most of the newsrooms started producing far more solutions stories — nearly twice as many — once they were in the Accelerator. And we’ve seen ideas come to life in tangible, fundable ways. WUWM in Milwaukee, for example, created a new Seeking Solutions brand during the Accelerator, which they kicked off with a series on housing that has several sponsors. Teams tell us the Accelerator is helping them think bigger, collaborate across departments more naturally, and build habits they will use to continue to grow new revenue over time.
