This is groundbreaking in a country where “female employment is startlingly low, in large part due to social prejudices and general disapproval of working women.” The Gandhi Nagar station pilot has increased revenue at this location, while also demonstrating a positive model of female employment for younger women. Based on this success, Indian Railways plans to spread the all-female model to other train stations.
