To Combat Widespread Job Loss, Stay Local and Look to Import Replacement

As communities around the United States face major job losses, those that have kept their economies local, like in Albuquerque, NM and Springfield, MA, are seeing more resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Cleveland, Ohio, home to Evergreen Cooperatives, is one example. There, they’ve localized their economy, creating businesses like solar panel factories, a greenhouse, and laundry services. Doing so has had many benefits, including “local hiring, local investment, and cultivating a local supply chain.”
