Black Women Help Harlem Emerge as a Global Fashion Hub


Yvonne Jewnell and Tandra Birkett created Harlem Fashion Week in order to increase diversity in a White industry. The event has drawn a diverse crowd; 95 to 98 percent of the designers who participate are people of color. Recently, brands like Nike and Sephora sponsored the event. In addition, the event has a following of nearly 200,000 people.
