Solutions journalism researcher Kate Roff is an award-winning journalist and editor, who has worked for media agencies in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Costa Rica. She was the managing editor of Detroit’s solutions-orientated Model D for several years, and is also the founding editor of Peace News Network, thanks to a background in media and politics. Kate piloted a senior capstone Solutions Journalism course at Oakland University, the first of its kind in Michigan, after attending SJN’s Educators Academy in Portland. With research into solutions journalism education, she’s witnessed first-hand how the practice can re-engage the next generation of journalists with news media.

When she isn’t reporting from small corners of the world, she works on PhD studies into solutions journalism’s inclusion of marginalized voices and impact on public trust, at the University of Adelaide, Australia. She highly encourages visitors.
